We wish all of you a wonderful upcoming Thanksgiving Break starting on Wednesday, November 24th. We are thankful to be a part of such a caring school community.
In Math we started dividing using the Partial Quotients Method. Ask your kids about "friendly numbers" and how they use them.
In Social Studies we finished our study of the Revolutionary War and we are making pop-up pages of our favorite events during the war. The Sophomore class at Lake Region High School created books describing events that led up to the Revolutionary War, and they are coming here to share these books with our 5th graders next Tuesday.
We spent this week researching our Earth's Changing Mission Project. Mrs. G.M. has started putting our research on templates.
Our new reading strategy that we are learning is called, Monitoring Understanding. We ask ourselves questions like, "Do I understand what I just read?" and "Should I go back and re-read that passage?"
Have a safe and wonderful holiday with family and friends!

GREAT TO SEE ALL OF OUR PARENTS
Thank you so much for attending our parent teacher conferences last night. We enjoyed talking to all of you.
The project that we're doing in Science with Mrs. G.M. is called, The Changing Earth, and we are continuing our research. Soils assessments will be next week after some review.
We're having fun making triangles with compasses and measuring angles with protractors in Everyday Math. Ask your son or daughter about tessalations.
In Social Studies this week we read and talked about our candidates for governor. We also learned about the three major political parties. We then listened carefully to the speeches for student council representatives. Then on Tuesday, we voted. The 5th graders at SBES had a majority vote for Elliot Cutler.
We are now asking all of the fifth graders to read for 30 minutes each night!
Please remember that next week is a 3 day week for the kids. Verterans' Day is on Thursday and we have a teacher workshop day on Friday.
